In Kabaddi, India won its second consecutive Women’s Kabaddi World Cup in Dhaka, defeating Chinese Taipei 35-28 in a dominant final performance. India swept all four group-stage matches before beating Iran 33-21 in the semifinals. Chinese Taipei also entered the final unbeaten, having topped Group B and defeated hosts Bangladesh 25-18 in the semis. In Badminton, Indian shuttlers, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy reached the second round of men’s singles in the Australian Open Super 500 badminton tournament at Sydney yesterday. Paris Olympics 2024 semi-finalist Lakshya defeated Chinese Taipei’s Su Li-yang by a 21-17, 21-13 scoreline to advance to the next round. Prannoy beat Indonesia’s Yohanes Saut Marcellyno 6-21, 21-12, 21-17. Former World No. 1 Srikanth booked his place in the round of 16 after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia-hao 21-19, 19-21, 21-15.


 


Tharun overcame Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen 21-13, 17-21, 21-19 in a closely fought game. Ayush, on the other hand, thrashed Canada’s Sam Yuan 21-11, 21-15 scoreline. The game lasted just 33 minutes. SatChi, who won their men’s doubles opener on Tuesday, will face Chinese Taipei’s Su Ching-heng and Wu Guan-Xun in pre-quarterfinals.

In the Chess, Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi remained the lone Indian in the quarterfinals after P Harikrishna was eliminated by Jose Martinez Alcantara of Mexico in the fifth-round tie-break games of the FIDE World Cup at Panaji, Goa, yesterday. 

 

 

Harikrishna, who had displayed sublime form so far, finally ran out of luck and ideas against Martinez, who had earlier created a buzz in the event by defeating Nodirbek Yakubboev of Uzbekistan. Earlier, Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi stormed into the quarterfinals of the FIDE World Cup, defeating two-time winner Levon Aronian of the United States in the second game of the round of 16 in Panaji, Goa, on Saturday.

 

 

In the quarterfinal today, Erigaisi will play Chinese GM Wei Yi, Shankland meets Andrey Esipenko, and Martinez will face GM Javokhir Sindarov of Uzbekistan.

Greater Noida Hosts World Boxing Cup Finals 2025 with 130 Boxers from 18 Countries

Greater Noida is set to host the World Boxing Cup Finals scheduled from today to November 20, at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.

 

The World Cup Finals are the season finale of the World Boxing Cup Series 2025, following the three World Cup Stages held earlier in Brazil, Poland, and Kazakhstan. The event will have 130 boxers from 18 countries, featuring the 8 best boxers of the year in each of the 20 categories.

 

India is competing in all 20 categories, as the host will field the world champions like Minakshi, Nikhat Zareen, Jaismine, and Saweety Boora. Saweety is making her comeback for the first time this year, as Lovlina Borgohain has decided to withdraw from the tournament, citing an injury.

 

India will also aim to win a few medals in Men’s boxing from Abhinash Jamwal and Hitesh, who had two medals each at this year’s World Cup circuit.

Ankita Bhakat rose to become India’s first women’s recurve individual Asian Champion with a composed 7-3 win over Olympic silver medalist Nam Su-hyeon in Dhaka at the Asian Archery Championships. Moments later, Dhiraj Bommadevara sealed his place in the record books by becoming the first Indian male recurve Asian Individual champion. Esha Singh clinches bronze medal at ISSF World Championship Rifle and Pistol

In Shooting, former Asian champion Esha Singh clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 25-meter pistol event at the ISSF World Championship Rifle and Pistol in Cairo, Egypt, yesterday. This is her first individual senior world championship medal. Esha finished with a score of 30 in the final, behind South Korea’s reigning Olympic champion Yang Jiin, who claimed gold with 40, and China’s Yao Qianxun, who won silver with 38.


 


This marks Esha’s third individual ISSF medal of the year, following gold and silver at World Cup stages earlier. However, two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker drew a blank in the event. Overall, India are at the third position on the medal table with three gold, five silver, and four bronze medals, behind China with 10 golds, and South Korea with 6 golds.

In Badminton, star Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen has stormed into the semi-finals of the Kumamoto Masters Japan tournament. Paris Olympics 2024 semifinalist, Lakshya secured a win over former world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore, 21-13, 21-17, in the quarterfinals yesterday. Lakshya will face world Number 13 and 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist Kenta Nishimoto of Japan today for a place in the finals. Grandmaster Karthik Venkataraman Reaches Fourth Round of FIDE Chess World Cup 2025

In Chess, Indian Grandmaster Karthik Venkataraman advanced to the fourth round of the FIDE Chess World Cup 2025 in Panaji, Goa. He reached the fourth round after defeating Romanian Grandmaster Bogdan-Daniel Deac in a tense tiebreaker. With this, Karthik joins four other Indian players-Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, P Harikrishna, and world junior champion V Pranav-in the fourth round.

 

 

Grandmasters Vidit Gujrathi and S.L. Narayanan were both eliminated in their respective tiebreak encounters. Gujrathi lost to America’s Sam Shankland, while Narayanan went down to China’s Yangyi Yu in the first set of rapid games. Out of 206 Indian participants who began the competition, only five now remain in contention for the title. The top three finishers in the World Cup will qualify for the prestigious Candidates Tournament.

Moving on to the world of sports, in shooting, India’s Anish Bhanwala created history at the ISSF World Championships by clinching silver in the men’s 25-metre rapid fire pistol event at Cairo in Egypt

 

 

Anish clinched the silver medal by hitting 28 targets in the final holding. This remarkable performance makes him the first Indian individual pistol shooter ever to win a World Championships medal at an Olympic event. 23-year-old Anish, who hails from Sonipat in Haryana, brings up India’s medal count at the Cairo meet to five – with one gold, two silvers and two bronze.

विभिन्न वर्गों में विजयी रहे प्रतिभागियों को मेडल तथा ट्रॉफी देकर सम्मानित किया गया। प्रतियोगिता में अंडर-19 बॉयज 51.55 किलो भार वर्ग के ताइक्वांडो मुकाबले में आरुष जसवाल क्लस्टर-5 गोल्ड मेडल, अंडर-19 गल्र्स ताइक्वांडो 46 किलो से कम भार बार वर्ग में पलक शर्मा क्लस्टर 5 तथा 44.46 भार वर्ग में क्लस्टर 5 की ही अलीशा ठाकुर ने गोल्ड मेडल जीता। अंडर-17 गल्र्स ताइक्वांडो 49.52 भार वर्ग में क्लस्टर 3 की युविका ने गोल्ड मेडल तथा 52.55 भार वर्ग में आराध्या पंडित क्लस्टर 3 में ही गोल्ड मेडल जीता। अंडर-14 बॉयज ताइक्वांडो 17.21 भार वर्ग में क्लस्टर 3 के रीजनल ने गोल्ड मेडल जीता। डीएवी स्टेट लेवल ताइक्वांडो व योग टूर्नामेंट में 8 क्लस्टर के लगभग 400 खिलाड़ी अपनी प्रतिभा का प्रदर्शन किया, जिसमें ताइक्वांडो में 150 खिलाड़ी और योग में 240 प्रतिभागियों ने भाग लिया। प्रतियोगिता में चयनित खिलाड़ी आगामी राष्ट्रीय स्तरीय डीएवी प्रतियोगिता में भाग लेंगे। बड़सर में सेवा पखवाड़ा के तहत विशाल स्वास्थ्य शिविर में 650 लोगों की हुई नि:शुल्क स्वस्थ्य जांच ।

India claimed a 1-2 finish in the 10m air pistol mixed team junior event, while Italy celebrated a golden double in the Skeet competitions on Day 3 of the ISSF Junior World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in New Delhi yesterday.

 

 

The competition concluded at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range with India still leading the medal tally.

 

 

Kapil and Rashmika Sahgal defeated compatriots Jonathan Gavin Antony and Vanshika Chaudhary 16-10 in the 10m air pistol mixed team gold medal match to win India’s third gold of the competition.

 

Later, Marco Coco and Arianna Nember of Italy claimed top honours in the junior men’s and women’s skeet finals, respectively.

 

 

In the mixed team pistol, Spain’s Ines Castro Ortega and Lucas Sanchez Tome secured the bronze with a narrow 16-14 win over Iran’s Parimah Amiri and Mohammadreza Ahmadi in mixed air pistol.

 

 

Italy’s success in Skeet was led by Marco Coco, who carried his qualification form (122) into the junior men’s final, shooting 56 hits from 60 targets to win gold. Finland’s Lassi Akseli Matias Kauppinen claimed silver with 53 hits, while Cyprus’s Andreas Pontikis took bronze with 43 hits.

 

 

India’s Harmehar Singh Lally (35 hits) and Atul Singh Rajawat (25 hits) were eliminated in fourth and fifth place, respectively, while the Netherlands’ Ryan Kooijman finished sixth with 14.

 

 

In the women’s Skeet final, World Championship silver medallist Arianna Nember of Italy produced a stellar performance, hitting 53 targets to secure gold.

 

 

India’s Olympian Raiza Dhillon finished with 51 hits to win silver, while reigning Asian champion Mansi Raghuwanshi added bronze with 41 hits. Mansi had earlier topped the qualification round with 117 hits.

 

 

USA’s 14-year-old Chloe Chaleunsinh finished fourth with 32 hits, Individual Neutral Athlete Kseniia Shuliak was fifth with 22, and India’s Agrima Kanwar completed the final lineup with 13.

 

 

The ISSF Junior World Cup kicked off in New Delhi on 24 September and the main event started from 25 September 2025.

 

 

The competition will be held till 2nd of next month. The event will feature shooting competitions in the Under-21 age category across rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines. It will feature 208 shooters from 19 federations. 

 

 

This is the 11th edition of the event and the first to be held in India. Players from US, Italy, Czechia, Iran, Croatia, Great Britain, UAE, Slovakia, Qatar, Spain, and New Zealand, along with 40 Individual Neutral Athletes, are participating in the competition.

Mr. Kumar announced, on behalf of the Bihar government, that Shailesh Kumar will be awarded 75 lakh rupees and a citation under the State Sports Award Scheme for this historic achievement.

12th World Para Athletics Championship 2025 begins at JLN Stadium, New Delhi

The 12th World Para Athletics Championship 2025 has begun at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi today. The nine-day championship will feature a total of 186 medal events. These include 101 for men, 84 for women, and one mixed event, covering sprint finishes to endurance races. The Championship will culminate on the 5th of next month.


 



Indian para-athlete Deepthi Jeevanji has qualified for the medal round with the first position in the Women’s 400 meter T20 event today. She took 58.35 seconds which is her season’s best performance. In Heat 1, Leonela Coromoto Vera Colina of Venezuela secured the first position with a timing of 57.10 seconds. This is also her season’s best performance. More than a thousand athletes from over a hundred nations are participating in the Championship. Several renowned players including Athanasios Ghavelas, Ezra Frech, James Turner, Catherine Debrunner, Fleur Jong, Magdalena Andruszkiewicz will be the star attraction of the event. Hosts are represented by more than 70 athletes.


 


The eyes will be on India’s star players like Sumit Antil, Preeti Pal, Praveen Kumar, Dharambir Nain and Navdeep among others. Paris Paralympics club throw gold medallist Dharambir Nain and double bronze-winning sprinter Preethi Pal will be India’s flag bearers during the ceremony. Gold medallist javelin thrower Sumit Antil will be a clear favourite to complete a hat-trick of gold medals.

In the Asia Cup Cricket, India defeated Sri Lanka in last clash of the Super Fours stage in Dubai after a dramatic and intense Super Over to reach the final of the tournament unbeaten. With the win, Men in Blue have extended their winning streak to six matches. Though India had already qualified for the Asia Cup final while Sri Lanka were eliminated after losing both their Super 4 games, the dead rubber Super Fours clash last night turned out to be the most exciting game of this year’s tournament as the match entered the Super Over after getting tied.


 


In the Super Over, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh took two wickets, restricting Sri Lanka to 2 runs. India, needing 3 to win the game, pulled off a win on the first ball itself. Earlier, put in to bat, India posted a total of 202 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma was the highest scorer for India with 61 runs. ISSF Junior World Cup to kick off in New Delhi today

The ISSF Junior World Cup will kick off in New Delhi today. The next generation of shooting talent across 15 Olympic events and 2 non-Olympic events will be competing in Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun will be held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range from today till October 2. 

 

 

Altogether 208 young shooters from 18 countries, showcasing the young talent, will be fighting it out for a total of 51 medals at stake. Hosts India will lead the field with a strong contingent of 69 athletes, while other participating nations include the US, Italy, Czechia, Iran, Croatia, Great Britain, UAE, Slovakia, Qatar, Spain, New Zealand, along with 40 Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN). This will be the second and final World Cup for Juniors this year. Govt brings out selection criteria for participation of individuals & teams in Asian Games 2026, other multi-sports events

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has brought out the Selection Criteria for participation of Individuals and Teams in the Asian Games 2026 and other multi-sports events. The decision has been taken with a view to laying down a transparent and equitable framework aiming to ensure that the athletes who have a real chance of winning a medal are only considered for participation in multi-disciplinary sports events.


 


The selection criteria have laid down benchmarks, both for measurable and non-measurable events, which will be guiding principles to decide on participation in multi-sports events such as Asian Games, Para Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics and Asian Youth Games. These criteria will not apply to the Olympics and other international competitions where athlete or team participation is determined by qualification standards set by the respective international federations.
