The Union Cabinet has today approved the Investment Proposal for the construction of 1200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in Anjaw District of Arunachal Pradesh with an outlay of 14105.83 crore rupees and a completion period of 78 months.

 

Additionally, the Cabinet has also approved the Investment Proposal for construction of 1720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Kamle, Kra Daadi & Kurung Kumey Districts with an outlay of 26,069.50 crore rupees and completion period of 96 months.

 Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra today said interest rates are likely to remain low in the medium to long term, supported by benign inflation and strong macroeconomic fundamentals. Addressing a post-monetary policy press conference, the Governor said the Indian economy remains “very strong, resilient and robust,” adding that the current policy stance is neutral, leaving room for movement in either direction. However, he noted that the continuation of low interest rates for a longer period remains a strong possibility.

The RBI has projected GDP growth at 6.9 percent for the current financial year, underlining confidence in the economy despite global uncertainties. Governor Malhotra highlighted that structural reforms and coordinated efforts by the government, RBI and other institutions continue to support growth while keeping inflationary pressures under control. On inflation, the central bank has estimated it at 4.6 percent for 2026-27, well within the target band of 2 to 6 per cent, reinforcing the outlook for stable prices.

Earlier in the day, the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee unanimously decided to keep the benchmark repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent, adopting a cautious “wait-and-watch” approach. The decision comes amid heightened global uncertainty, particularly due to the recent West Asia tensions, which led to a spike in crude oil prices, weakening of the rupee and disruptions in global trade flows. Governor Malhotra said the central bank has factored in the recent ceasefire developments in its assessment. He noted that external shocks, including geopolitical tensions, continue to pose risks to inflation and growth, necessitating a calibrated policy approach.

On monetary transmission, the Governor said banks have passed on about 90 basis points reduction in lending rates against a cumulative 125 basis points cut in the repo rate. On the deposit side, transmission has exceeded 100 basis points, which he termed as satisfactory. Addressing concerns on currency market measures, Governor Malhotra clarified that steps taken by the RBI were aimed at curbing excessive volatility in the rupee and are not structural in nature. He reiterated the central bank’s commitment to further developing and deepening financial markets, adding that such temporary measures will not remain in place permanently. The RBI Governor emphasised that despite recent volatility in the forex market, India’s macroeconomic fundamentals remain strong, providing stability and supporting sustained economic growth in the coming period.

 In IPL Cricket, Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by just one run at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi last night. Chasing a target of 210 runs, Delhi Capitals made 209 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated twenty overs. 

 

For Delhi Capitals, K L Rahul with 92 was the top scorer. For Gujarat Titans, Rashid Khan scalped three wickets, Prasidh Krishna took two wickets and Mohammed Siraj claimed a wicket. Rashid Khan was declared Player of the Match. 

 

Batting First, Gujarat Titans made 210 runs for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated twenty overs. Skipper Shubman Gill with 70 was the top scorer for Gujarat Titans while Washington Sundar scored 55. For Delhi Capitals, Mukesh Kumar scalped two wickets.

 US President Donald Trump has again attacked NATO for not supporting the US in the Iran war, following a private meeting with its Secretary General, Mark Rutte, at the White House. In a post shared to Truth Social after the meeting, President Trump said that the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation wasn’t there when US needed them, and they wouldn’t be there if Washington needed them again.

 

Mr Rutte, in a media interaction, described his meeting with Trump as very frank and very open. Ahead of the talks, US President had toyed with the idea of quitting the trans-Atlantic military alliance after several NATO countries resisted his calls to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz to ease rising global oil prices.

 

White House Press Secretary Karoline told reporters that leaving NATO remains under discussion. The meeting came amid Trump’s concern with European allies for not fully backing US military actions against Iran.

 

The talks also covered broader coordination, including efforts to secure shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz and diplomatic moves to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

 

The White House later said the meeting between Trump and Rutte had ended, with no formal announcement on any policy shift.

 

In a separate engagement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Rutte and discussed increasing coordination and burden shifting with NATO Allies, according to the State Department.

 हिमाचल प्रदेश में आगामी पंचायती राज संस्थाओं के चुनावों में सरकारी भूमि, शामलात भूमि पर अवैध कब्जा करने वाले व्यक्ति और उनके परिवार के सदस्य पंचायत चुनाव नहीं लड़ पाएंगे। साथ ही चिट्टा व हैराेइन तस्करी में चार्जशीटेड आरोपी पर भी चुनाव लड़ने पर प्रतिबंध रहेगा। इस निर्णय का उद्देश्य पंचायतों में स्वच्छ, ईमानदार और निष्पक्ष छवि वाले प्रतिनिधियों का चयन सुनिश्चित करना है। राज्य में पंचायती राज संस्थाओं के चुनावों को लेकर निर्वाचन आयोग ने तैयारियां तेज कर दी हैं।

सरकार के निर्देशों के अनुसार यदि किसी व्यक्ति के खिलाफ सरकारी या सामुदायिक भूमि पर अवैध कब्जे की मिसल (राजस्व रिकॉर्ड में दर्ज मामला) बनी हुई है तो वह व्यक्ति चुनाव लड़ने के लिए अयोग्य माना जाएगा। इतना ही नहीं, उसके परिवार का कोई सदस्य भी चुनावी मैदान में नहीं उतर सकेगा। आयोग का मानना है कि इस कदम से भूमि अतिक्रमण जैसे गंभीर मामलों में संलिप्त लोगों को सार्वजनिक प्रतिनिधित्व से दूर रखा जा सकेगा। विशेष रूप से ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में शामलात भूमि, जिसे जुमला मुश्तरका मालकान भूमि भी कहा जाता है, सामुदायिक उपयोग के लिए होती है। इस भूमि पर अवैध कब्जे के मामलों को लंबे समय से गंभीर समस्या माना जाता रहा है। इससे पंचायतों में अवैध कब्जों को बढ़ावा नहीं मिलेगा।

इसके अलावा, चुनाव प्रक्रिया को स्वच्छ और अपराधमुक्त बनाने के लिए आयोग ने नशा तस्करी से जुड़े मामलों पर भी सख्ती दिखाई है। यदि किसी व्यक्ति के खिलाफ चिट्टा या हैरोइन जैसे मादक पदार्थों के मामलों में अदालत द्वारा चार्जशीट फ्रेम हो चुकी है तो वह भी पंचायत चुनाव लड़ने के लिए अयोग्य होगा। इस प्रावधान का मकसद पंचायत स्तर पर अपराध और नशे के प्रभाव को समाप्त करना है।

विधानसभा में पारित हुआ है बिल

हिमाचल प्रदेश विधानसभा में चिट्टा/हैरोइन तस्करी में चार्जशीट हुए व्यक्ति को पंचायती राज संस्थाओं के चुनाव लड़ने से रोकने को लेकर हाल ही में हुए बजट सत्र में बिल पारित हुआ है। अब इसे राज्यपाल की मंजूरी के लिए भेजा गया है। राज्यपाल की मंजूरी के बाद यह लागू हो जाएगा तथा आगामी पंचायती राज संस्थाओं के चुनावों में लागू हो जाएगा।

 

Greece has announced to ban access to social media for those under the age of 15, from January of next year, citing concerns over mental health and the addictive design of online platforms.

 

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said the move was aimed at tackling rising anxiety and sleep problems among young people, as well as “addictive design” of social media. In a video message posted on TikTok yesterday, Mitsotakis said that many young people tell him that they feel exhausted from comparisons, from comments, from the pressure to always be online. He said he had spoken with parents who said their children do not sleep well, are anxious and are always on their phones.

 

The Greek government has already outlawed mobile phones ​in schools and set up parental control platforms to limit teenagers’ screen time.

 

France, Austria and Spain are among a growing number of nations pursuing similar curbs. The UK government has launched a consultation on whether to implement a ban for under-16s, while Ireland and Denmark are considering similar measures.

 

Australia in December last year became the first country in the world to require TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat and other top sites to remove accounts held by under-16s, or face heavy fines. 

 

Social media companies argue that blanket bans will be ineffective, difficult to enforce and could isolate vulnerable teenagers. Reddit is challenging Australia’s law in court.

 

Mitsotakis also said Greece would push for action at a European level. In March, Meta and YouTube were found liable in a landmark US trial over a woman’s childhood addiction to social media.

 राजस्थान के अजमेर से एक हैरान कर देने वाला मामला सामने आया है। दरअसल यहां के रामनगर इलाके में रहने वाले एक धोबी, जितेंद्र बाड़ोलिया की जिंदगी में उस वक्त तूफान आ गया जब आयकर विभाग (Income Tax Department) ने उन्हें 598 करोड़ रुपये के ट्रांजैक्शन का नोटिस थमा दिया। ₹10 प्रति जोड़ी कपड़े प्रेस करने वाले जितेंद्र को जब यह नोटिस मिला तो उसकी तबीयत अचानक बिगड़ गई। उनका शुगर लेवल 500 के पार पहुंच गया और ब्लड प्रेशर (BP) भी काफी बढ़ गया। मानसिक तनाव के चलते उन्होंने खाना-पीना तक छोड़ दिया। होश संभालने के बाद वे अपने वकील के पास पहुंचे और पूरी आपबीती सुनाई।

कैसे हुआ इतना बड़ा खेल?

जितेंद्र के वकील राकेश ठाडा के अनुसार, यह मामला पूरी तरह से पहचान की चोरी (Identity Theft) का लग रहा है। करीब दो साल पहले जितेंद्र का पैन कार्ड खो गया था। आशंका है कि किसी जालसाज ने उस कार्ड का इस्तेमाल कर बैंक खाता खुलवाया। उसी पैन कार्ड और पहचान के आधार पर 'जीएसटी नंबर' लिया गया और एक फर्जी फर्म शुरू की गई। नोटिस में हीरे-जवाहरात के व्यापार से जुड़े लेन-देन का जिक्र है।

3 महीने में 600 करोड़ का खेल

जांच में यह बात सामने आई है कि पाली के एक डायमंड कारोबारी ने कथित तौर पर जितेंद्र के दस्तावेजों का इस्तेमाल कर सूरत (गुजरात) में ‘मैसर्स मनन इंटरप्राइजेज’ नाम से कंपनी खोली। इस कंपनी के जरिए मात्र 3 महीने के भीतर करीब 600 करोड़ रुपये का भारी-भरकम ट्रांजैक्शन किया गया, जिसकी भनक जितेंद्र को जरा भी नहीं थी।

पुलिस और आयकर विभाग की कार्रवाई

इस मामले में अजमेर के गंज थाना पुलिस में प्राथमिकी (FIR) दर्ज करा दी गई है। पुलिस अब उस पूरे नेटवर्क की तलाश कर रही है जिसने इस धोखाधड़ी को अंजाम दिया। वहीं, आयकर विभाग ने संबंधित बैंक मैनेजर को भी नोटिस जारी किया है। विभाग ने सवाल पूछा है कि नियमों के मुताबिक इतने बड़े ट्रांजैक्शन की जानकारी समय पर क्यों नहीं दी गई।

 India has withdrawn its proposal to host the 33rd Conference of the Parties (COP 33) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2028. The decision was conveyed to the Asia-Pacific group on April 2. India had proposed hosting the COP-33 summit in India in 2028. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had conveyed India’s proposal in his special address at the inauguration of High Level Segment of COP-28 in December 2023 in the UAE. 

 जिला शिमला में बुधवार को बारिश जारी रही। इस दौरान ऊंचाई वाले क्षेत्रों में बर्फबारी देखने को मिली। वहीं निचले क्षेत्रों में औलावृष्टि के साथ बारिश हुई। उपमंडल कुमारसैन के हाटू पीक में जहां करीब डेढ़ फुट ताजा बर्फबारी दर्ज की गई। वहीं नारकंडा में हल्की बर्फबारी हुई। इसके अलावा कचीन घाटी, आहर, छबिसी क्षेत्र सहित कई ऊंचाई वाले इलाकों में भारी ओलावृष्टि ने फसलों को नुकसान पहुंचाया है। जंजेली, कोटीधाट, कांगल, सिहल पंचायत तथा कोटगढ़ क्षेत्र के जरोल और थानाधार में भी तेज ओलावृष्टि देखने को मिली, जिससे सेब की फसल बुरी तरह प्रभावित हुई है। इस समय सेब के पौधे ‘पीक स्टेज’ पर हैं, लेकिन अचानक बढ़ी ठंड और ओलावृष्टि के कारण फूलों की वृद्धि रुक गई है।

जो फूल पहले ही निकल चुके थे, वे भी ओलों की मार से झड़ गए हैं। बागबानों के अनुसार बारिश से उत्पादन पर गहरा असर पड़ सकता है, जिससे उनकी आजीविका पर संकट खड़ा हो गया है। पूर्व बीडीसी चेयरमैन नारकंडा जीवन चौहान, समाजसेवी नरेश कुमार (शिवान) तथा व्यापार मंडल किंगल के प्रधान ने बताया कि क्षेत्र में हुई भारी ओलावृष्टि से किसानों को व्यापक नुकसान झेलना पड़ा है। उन्होंने प्रशासन से मांग की है कि प्रभावित ॉक्षेत्रों का शीघ्र आकलन किया जाए और सरकार द्वारा उचित मुआवजा दिया जाए। बागबानों का कहना है कि यदि समय रहते राहत नहीं मिली, तो इस वर्ष उन्हें भारी आर्थिक नुकसान का सामना करना पड़ सकता।

 External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will be on a visit to Mauritius and United Arab Emirates beginning today. In the first leg of his tour, Dr Jaishankar will visit Mauritius to participate in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference.

 

During his visit, the External Affairs Minister will meet the leadership of Mauritius and review the entire spectrum of bilateral ties. He will also deliver the keynote address at the 9th Indian Ocean Conference. On the sidelines, Dr Jaishankar is expected to hold discussions with counterparts from other participating nations. The visit underscores India’s Neighbourhood First policy, Vision MAHASAGAR, and commitment to the Global South. 

 

In the second leg of his visit, the External Affairs Minister will visit the United Arab Emirates from 11 to 12 of this month. During the visit, Dr Jaishankar will meet the leadership of the UAE to review close cooperation and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

 Union Home Minister Amit Shah has offered tributes to the martyrs of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on CRPF Valour Day. In a social media post, the Home Minister said that on this day in 1965, the fearless warriors of CRPF stood like an unbreakable wall at Sardar Post in the Rann of Kutch, crushing the enemy’s advances and writing a glorious chapter of bravery in India’s history.

 

Mr Shah paid his respects to the indomitable courage and sacrifice of the brave hearts who laid down their lives for the honour and security of the nation.
