The 135th edition of the Durand Cup, India's oldest football tournament, begins today in Shillong, with Group E matches set to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Group E features three clubs from Meghalaya—Shillong Lajong FC, Nongkseh Sports, Social & Cultural Club, and Langsning Football Club—alongside Mumbai Football Club, promising exciting action for local football fans.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will attend the opening ceremony this afternoon. The event will include cultural performances, including a special display by a military band.
The Indian Armed Forces have also organised a public exhibition of weapons and military equipment at the Polo Ground, open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM today. The exhibition will reopen for visitors on August 3.
