In a major relief for farmers, the Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31 with a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore.
Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the decision reflects the government's commitment to ensuring farmers' prosperity through direct financial support.
Under the PM-KISAN Scheme, eligible farmer families receive income support directly into their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and timely assistance.
The Minister informed that more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has already been transferred directly to farmers through 23 installments. He said the financial assistance has helped farmers invest in seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, agricultural machinery and other essential farming inputs, thereby improving agricultural productivity and reducing financial stress.
The Cabinet also approved the National Offshore Exploration Scheme – Samudra Manthan with an outlay of ₹84,084 crore till 2030-31 to strengthen India's domestic oil and gas production and enhance energy security.
